It’s hard to believe, but there are people out there that I know don’t like me very much. I think there was a Seinfeld episode about this – how could anyone not like Jerry?… No matter who you are, or how much you try there’s going to be people who don’t like you. There’s also going to be people you’re not particularly fond of as well. Often it’s the same people, but not always. Every once in a while you’ll get that person who obviously likes you – and you can’t stand them. And you also have probably liked someone in your life who made it clear one way or another they didn’t like you. In the entire sea of humanity, what is it that draws us to or from one another? Sometimes the second you meet someone it’s like you’ve been friends forever, other times it’s almost instant abhorrence. And every now and then, the person who you didn’t like very much at first will become a lifelong friend, and someone who bonded well at first will fall out of favor. All of us have our own unique way of looking at life and doing things. And over time, even that changes. So the person you didn’t like or know very well in high school becomes a good friend later in life. Or vice versa. Everything moves in waves, right? Waves of electricity and motion. Sometimes the magnetism clings tightly together, other times it repels. And we’re the pinballs bouncing around inside the machine. We all know love, we all know anger, we all know kindness, we all know hatred. Through it all we try to be the best people we can be under whatever circumstances we are given. And even so – some people won’t like us, and we’ll meet people we don’t like as well. I try to analyze what it is when I meet someone I don’t care for – what is it that bugs me? Because they’re just being themselves, and the irritation is really an internal one that I’m creating within myself – so is it them, or is it me that has the issue? And, of course there will be some people you’ll never see eye to eye with, or there was an issue with that neither of you will ever let go, and they are to be avoided at all costs. Not worth the aggravation. Funny how our minds work. What if we got to the place where we could just love and not be pushed and pulled about by our emotions? We are spiritual beings having a human experience… sometimes I have to remind myself about that. Because, how could anybody not like Dave?… 🙂

  1. it is funny how our minds work. Knew someone once who never really liked the men she dated and finally figured out that they all wore polo shirts, just like her dad who was a wonderful guy and that signaled someone who could be trusted. And it works in reverse – we can be turned off in just the same way. I find it’s important to keep an open mind, a closed mouth and listen. Almost impossible for me to do. But, like you, I am a work in progress.
