Well, this is a view I haven’t had for a while. My back window here in Maui. It’s fantastic. In the midst of a crazy year, we are taking twelve days off for a well deserved vacation. And as crazy as I am when I’m home about getting things done, filling my days with appointments and routine… I am really good at throwing it all out the window when I go on vacation. It really helps me gain some perspective. Sleep is an amazing thing. I get way more sleep when my mind isn’t going nuts thinking about the day ahead. And, even though it’s only been a couple days – extra sleep really helps physically and mentally as well. Crazy how fast a day goes by sitting on a beach watching the ocean. Race cars don’t race 24 hours a day for a reason I guess. They need maintenance. We as humans need it, too. It’s important to step back every now and then. My wife and I are very, very humbled, blessed, and grateful that we’re in a position to take vacations like this. We worked our tails off to get here. We both know what it feels like to be down and out in life. Tuesday will be 36 years sober for me. Wow. What a life. I love every second of it now. And I was at a point back then when I questioned my will to live. I had to learn to love myself, in spite of the low self esteem I had. It really took years. Then try to change to being a more open and loving person, which I’d say is still a work in progress at best. And as I sit here looking back on it all today – I’m grateful for everything. Because you can’t really appreciate the highs without going through some lows in life. And now I’m at a point where I need to just throw away the routine every now and then and just go somewhere and let the days come to me. Relax. Calm it all down. We all need that. Then take that peace, that love, that stillness, into everything we do. Share the love. You can’t share it if you don’t have it, and if you’re constantly tense and anxious – well, that’s what you’ll share. This is why vacations are a necessary part of life. To recharge the joy in your soul, so you can share it with others. And today I feel a lot of peace here. So grateful. Take the time you need to stay happy and healthy. Everything emanates from the feeling you have in your heart. Attitudes are contagious. The more love you share, the more you’ll receive. So do what you can to approach the days with love and gratitude. And step back when you need to. Sometimes you can’t really move forward without stepping back first…
