It’s Mother’s Day today. Got me thinking about — what makes someone a good mother? My wife is by far the best mother/grandmother I’ve ever known. She’d do anything for those kids. But that’s really one of the things that makes good mother so special, right? You can do the dumbest thing in the world. You can totally mess your life up royally. You can be hit with mental, physical and financial hardship you never saw coming — and even if the situation you’re in was totally your own doing — mom won’t care. She’s going to love you unconditionally. Isn’t mom the first person you think of when you have nowhere else to turn? Moms instinctively seem to know how to comfort in times of need. And they’ll support you, too. Even if everyone else laughs at your ideas, and tells you all the reasons you could never do something — your mom won’t. She’ll see only success. Because we are all superstars in the eyes of our mothers. Not everyone has a good relationship with their mother, I get that — but my mother was one of the strongest women I ever met. And she helped me through a lot of really bad times in my life directly related to poor decisions on my part. She’s not available to me on this planet anymore. They only last so long. So, in conclusion — a couple thoughts. One: mothers are great because of unconditional love and the ability to forgive. We could all learn from that. Two: our time together is not endless. So, if your mother is one of the good ones, I hope you have time today to connect with her in some way. Let her know how much you love and appreciate her and everything she’s done for you. My wife is always the happiest when she’s at family gatherings. Sometimes I just sit back and watch her, because it’s fun to see people in their element, you know? That is her element. There is one day a year to clelebrate our mothers. They celebrate us every day of their lives.
