Do souls have a color?… a gender?… a sexuality?… a nationality?… a religion?… personally, I don’t think they do. Our souls are born into a human body and given the body and mind to work with. Our bodies have various colors and genders. Our mind creates whatever sexuality it feels comfortable with, and decides what religion we choose to follow, if any. The body we are given is located in a place on Earth that defines our nationality. All the problems and judgements we have from there have nothing to do with the essence of who we are, which is the soul that resides within us. It’s absolutely horrible what we have done to, and continue to do to each other as humans based on the differences we have that are inherent to life on Earth. This race is better than that race. This gender is better than that one. You can only physically love another person this way, not that way. This country, or this religion, is better than that one. “I’m right, you’re wrong” mentality has created more suffering than maybe anything else in human history. Is this what we want to see? Is this the world our souls yearn for? Do you ever take the time to get in touch with your soul – or are you so caught up in your mind – which is often what and who we think we are – that the soul sits behind your thoughts unvisited? Souls don’t know of anger or hatred. They know love. Unconditional love, which is a rare thing to see as humans. True, unconditional love. A mother’s love for her child is maybe the most common way to see it on Earth. I think in many ways, dogs were sent to us to teach us this. They are great at it. We stink at it. What is more common to see? Anger, judgement, hatred, and fear. Ah… fear. We fear the things we don’t know. We fear the things we don’t understand. And we have a tendency to think that our thoughts and beliefs are the proper way to think, and everyone else is wrong. So we head to social media and spend a ridiculous amount of time arguing amongst ourselves as to who and what is the best way to think – politically, religiously, sexually, and every other topic in between. And what we think about expands. So, anger and hatred are expanded in amounts never known before in history these days, as we have so much access to each other so much faster than ever before. And behind it all sits the souls within us, wishing we could just visit once in a while and try to understand the importance of love. Unconditional love. Yeah, but – the people that are “that” color are ruining this country!… fear. Yeah, but – men are supposed to be the dominant gender!… fear. People who act that way sexually will coerce children to think like them!… fear. Don’t get me wrong, there is certainly a place for fear in our lives. And we all agree that jails and prisons are a necessity. Murderers, rapists, thieves, need to be handled as such. But the idea that anyone who is a certain race or nationality or sexuality is automatically then guilty of any of those things is misguided at best. We spend a lot of time arguing amongst ourselves, and very little time, if any, seeking to know the soul that resides within us. How would you find God without a religion? Do we really need to follow a certain creed? I don’t believe so. God is within all of us, just waiting for us to take the time to visit. The path you take to get there doesn’t matter at all – prayer, meditation… or through your religion, if that’s your thing. So, the next time you see a post that stirs that anger in your heart – maybe pause a minute or two before responding in kind. Compound interest is an amazing thing – and what we really don’t need right now is compound anger and hatred. Think of the people through history who lived in a way that glorified God. Jesus – Buddha – Ghandi – Mother Theresa… what if that was the way we all lived? What would happen if we started compounding love instead of anger? I do my best to live this way. It isn’t easy. I have gone through several periods in my life where I meditated daily for years. It has an impact. You can’t truly live life knowing the vast resource our souls provide for us if you don’t visit once in a while. We are not our minds. Anger, hatred and fear are man made. Don’t let it become your default setting. There is this vast ocean of love within all of us available free of charge if we just seek it. And now, maybe more than ever, is a good time to do just that.
