Coming at you today way late after playing a gig last night. My being gone gave my wife Laurie time to get the tree up and decorated. Next week we have the Holiday Breakfast meeting we do every year coming up. What is the holiday breakfast, you ask? It’s when we get a group of people together to go out for breakfast. Everyone brings a $100 bill. We go to a different restaurant every year, otherwise we could be recognized and have the wait staff start fist fights to see who gets to wait on us. Because when we’re done we collect all the $100 bills and give it all to whoever waited on us and tell them to “keep the change”. It’s usually around $1500 total minus the charge for breakfast. Here in Wisconsin 15 people can eat breakfast for just over $200, so… it’s a rather large tip. And it’s been incredible every time, too. We try to get the word out to everyone we know every year, literally thousands of people. And I realize that to go you have to be somewhat nearby, right? You’re not flying in from England to join us, I wouldn’t think. But we certainly know hundreds and hundreds of people in the vicinity. The other requirement is to bring $100 for each person. Both Laurie and I were not in a position to do that for a good portion of our lives, so I understand loving the idea, but not being able to afford it as well. And then there’s the specific date and time, etc… it doesn’t always work due to that, either. But every year we get some new people, and some people who have been there in the past who can’t make it, and every year it seems like we get 15 people who actually do it. And hundreds of people who “love the idea” but don’t do it. And in many ways it’s a microcosm of life, right? We all have these ideas we get that are exciting to think about, but when we actually think about following through — more often than not we talk ourselves out of it. All the reasons we can think about not to do it overwhelm us and scare us into complacency. It’s always easier do to nothing rather than start a new fitness program, or follow through on a business idea, or write a book, or learn to play an instrument, or whatever it is for you. So we do nothing. And years later, as we’re still thinking about the thing we’d like to do we think “man, if I had just started this when I first thought about it I’d be a lot further along already”. Right?… we all do this. We put things off for “someday”. “Someday” I’ll do that. “Someday” I’ll get to it. And… somedays never come. Someday is today, right this second, now. It’s the only time we can control. Take a good long look at the things you’re putting off for “someday” today. Start them, or throw them away. If there isn’t a strong enough urge to do it now, let it go. If it keeps coming back — do it. Don’t ignore the pull. The Universe wants you to courageously move in the direction of your dreams. That will require action. And that action can only be taken now, not “someday”. I hope your holiday season is going well. I greatly appreciate everyone who follows and comments on there posts every week. And I hope that you pull something magical out of your someday pile and make it happen. Because sometimes — there is magic just outside your comfort zone.
