Sunday morning. I love mornings. Probably my favorite time of the day. I write every day. I read every day. I spend a lot of time being grateful for everything and everyone in my life in the morning. Every day. I try to take things for grateful instead of for granted. I really do live in wonder and awe at the fact I’m even here at all. And the plethora of possibilities we have. I truly believe that everything always works out for me. And I think I’ve held that belief for so long it’s a self-fulfilling prophesy now. “You’ll see it when you believe it” is what Dr. Wayne W. Dyer used to say. No matter what happens — let’s say UPS crushes a mint condition bass guitar you sold to a buyer in Texas and sent it back to you in pieces, for example. An extremely unique and valuable instrument is totally destroyed. I put up a Facebook post about it that went viral. It’s been seen, shared and commented on thousands of times. It’s the most popular social media post I ever made by far. And so many people were talking about how angry they’d be, how they’d be calling the cops or demanding this or that from UPS… and I just took it all in good humor knowing it’s gonna work out. It’s gonna work out in some weird mysterious way I don’t even know yet. Because everything always works out for me. I think it helps to be grateful, too. For everything. I mean — even weird stuff, like when I’m writing I’ll look at the pen, the paper, my fingers and think — you know, this is incredible! How are pens made? How did humans get to he point where we can do this so effortlessly? I’m so grateful my hands are able to write at all — now, see? There’s something we probably usually take for granted. Our hands. Our bodies. Our minds. Even being here at all. Do you ever take the time to say “thank you”? I do. Every day. Because I’m truly thankful for the opportunity to be here at all. To have hands and pens and paper and everything else in my life. To live where I do. To have the family I have. To have a job that I love. To be able to help other people every day while doing that job. To have my health, which is another thing I take more and more seriously as I get older — and is often taken for granted. Physical and mental health is extremely important. Are you doing anything to keep yours intact? When is the last time you looked up and were just shaking with love and wonder and awe and said “thank you”? Because I do it all the time. Take things for gratitude today, not for granted. It’s awful when you don’t realize what you had until it’s gone. See the value in everything today. See your own value. See the possibilities to grow and love and share the gifts you’ve been given. Everything will always work out for you when you see it and believe it for yourself. I couldn’t imagine living any other way.
